| Some details
about me... |
| Hello stranger,
Finally I have decided to start adding stuff to this vanity home page of mine :) Since I don't work in the academia any more some of the sections here will be redesigned to reflect my current work. But before doing that I will update this section a bit. First of all some personal info. I was born some 30+ years ago in the beautiful city of Thessaloniki in northern Greece. I studied there throughout my entire school life and after finishing my university studies in Mathematics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki I started my PhD studies in the department of Informatics in the same university. In January 2003 I moved to Umeå in the north of Sweden to work in the Digital Media laboratory for an EU funded project for the department of Applied Physics and Electronics. I eventually stayed there until 2007. In the process I finished my PhD and after a short postdoc I got a position as an assistant professor at the same department. In 2008 I moved to Stockholm and
started working in R&D for Ericsson
in the Multimedia Technologies department. For more work related
details have a look at my CV,
the list of publications and the
different projects that I worked with in the past. In my free time, which unfortunately is not that much, I like to read, take care of my cats, listen to music and do some sports. Everything has started with Singu that was given to us by a friend in around 2004 who
was moving to Bolivia and couldn't or didn't want to take him with her
to such a long journey. But Singu was feeling kind of lonely living in a small appartment so Kattla
moved in. She came from a cat shelter and she was supposed to be a good
company for him but things didn't work out that way. Kattla was a very
dominant cat and being in the top of the hierarchy didn't want to play
with Singu. Therefore another cat moved in from the cat shelter. Her
name is Emma. Long story short, Singu moved away from us to a nice house with a big garden where he can chase mice and birds and he is finally happy. Well, at least during the summer cause in the winter temperatures are well bellow 0° (sometimes it reaches -30°) so he stays indoors. Kattla on the other hand developed lung cancer and had to be euthanized. So, now Emma is the only member from the old gang. But apart from Emma, Kattla and Singu we have played hosts to a numerous other cats and kittens. A brief listing is as follows: Reading
is my most time consuming daily activity. I am an information junky:) I
use RSS
and
through Google
Reader I follow 150
257 330 636 feeds,
blogs and news aggregators.
Ok, to be honest I do not read all of them in a daily base but I follow
most of them at least weekly:) I read probably hundreds of articles
every day in different languages (Eglish, Greek, Swedish, German,...). From all these sources of news, the articles that I find
exceptionally INTERESTING
(usually related to economy issues) I share them back (feature of
Google's Reader). These articles
can be found here.
Moreover, the ones that are simply interesting and I star them
can be
found here. I also update an Amazon review page for the books that I
am
reading. Another vanity activity of mine is to maintain my blogs (yes, plural). I wouldn't really call them blogs though since most of the time I am reposting material that I find left and right. Therefore, a better word would be personal aggregators. These are the following (links will be added shortly after I have solved a wordpress issue that I am facing):
I am not really an athletic person, I am just trying to prevent permanent damages to my body from sitting infront of a PC all day long. So, what do I do when I train? This:
I can listen to practically anything. Being a big fun of Spotify
I am probably using it 10h/d. If you don't have an account try to get
one and enjoy streaming music. In the future (far future; not any time
soon I will add some of my favourite) play lists here. |
